James W. Holmes, J.D., C.P.A., a Tennessee Certified Estate Planning Specialist and a member of the National Association of Estate Planners & Councils, co-founded Holmes & Stice PLC on July 1, 2000. He received his Bachelor of Science in Accounting from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, and his Juris Doctor degree from Memphis State University, Memphis, Tennessee, where he was the recipient of the Aaron Smith Tax Law Scholarship. Mr. Holmes became a Certified Public Accountant in 1994.
He is a member of the Kingsport and Tennessee Bar Associations, the Tri-Cities Estate Planning Council, and the Tennessee Society of Certified Public Accountants. His civic activities include past and present service for numerous local non-profit organizations, including current Chairman of the Sullivan County Election Commission, past Campaign Chair for the Kingsport United Way, original President of the First Presbyterian Child Daycare Center and Gibsontown Ministries. James is an alumnus of Leadership Kingsport and an honoree of the 2001 Tri-Cities Tennessee/Virginia “40 under Forty”, the region’s top business professionals.
James has been married to his wife, Teronya, for 35 years and they have three sons. He attends Celebration Church in Blountville, TN where he enjoys serving as a volunteer 3rd and 4th grade Sunday school teacher.

Michael D. Stice, is a Tennessee Certified Estate Planning Specialist and a member of the National Association of Estate Planners & Councils. He is also a director of the Estate Law Specialist Board, the ABA-sanctioned body that certifies attorneys in estate planning. He co-founded Holmes & Stice PLC in 2000, but began his practice in 1978 with the Wilson, Worley law firm. Mr. Stice graduated from Georgia Tech in 1975 (with highest honors) and Emory University School of Law in 1978, where he was the Style Editor of the Emory Law Journal.
He is a member of the Kingsport and Tennessee Bar Associations and is a past president of the Tri-Cities Estate Planning Council. He is active in his church and his civic activities include serving as president of the Kingsport Community Foundation (2 years), and on the boards of Boys & Girls Club of Greater Kingsport (past president), Mountain Region Speech and Hearing Center (past president), Rotary Club of Downtown Kingsport (past president) and the Greater Kingsport Family YMCA.
Jonathan Russell joined Holmes & Stice PLC as an Associate Attorney in 2022. He graduated magna cum laude from Milligan College in 2015 with a major in Economics and received the Legal Studies Student of the Year award. He was a member of the Milligan College Men’s Soccer team and received multiple All-Conference Academic awards, as well as being named the Conference Champion of Character.
Jonathan graduated cum laude from the University of Tennessee College of Law, focusing on estate planning and real estate transactions. During law school, Jonathan received the Promise in Property Law Award for academic excellence in property law courses. Jonathan was also a member of the University of Tennessee National Moot Court Team, where his team won the regional competition, and served as an Executive Editor of the Tennessee Transactions Journal of Business Law.
Jonathan lives in Kingsport with his wife and children. He is active in his church’s youth ministries and music ministry. When not at work or church, you may find Jonathan running at Warriors’ Path State Park (but only in good weather) or in the Ingles ice cream aisle (in any weather).

Myrl Dykes Quillen, a Kingsport native, received a Bachelor of Science, majoring in Accounting, from Carson-Newman University and her Juris Doctorate from the University of South Carolina. She is licensed as an attorney and CPA, inactive.
Starting as a young CPA and attorney, she worked for Ernst & Young, a global accounting firm. From there she transitioned into thirty-plus years of In-house Corporate Legal and Tax work, holding positions including Corporate Counsel, Tax Counsel, Director of International Taxes and Tax Expert for several billion dollar U.S. and foreign multinational companies. After retiring from Eastman Chemical Company in 2020, she sat out the Pandemic and was ready for something new. That came in the form of a position with Holmes & Stice, specializing in Probate cases. She loves her new position because it offers her opportunities to meet new people and help solve their problems. Myrl is licensed in both South Carolina and Tennessee.
She currently serves on the Board of Directors of the Friends of the Kingsport Public Library and previously served on the Board of Trustees of Carson-Newman University. She has actively served her church, First Baptist Kingsport, as Sunday School Teacher, Providence Medical counselor and Administrative Committee member.
She is married to Bob Quillen, owner of Bob Quillen Realtors, and enjoys reading, working in the yard, collecting antique glass and playing with her dogs.
